What a week we have had. In addition to re-adjusting to home life versus hotel life we have had quite the week with nursing. It all started when Dalby decided to use the two teeth she has had for months on her mom. 6 times being bitten in one day, while nursing was enough for both of us. Dalby has decided no more nursing, because every time she thinks she wants to nurse, she fakes me out and bites me. So that is done. On the plane ride home Dalby had taken a bottle of whole milk like a champ and we have been practicing with a sippy cup for months. So I thought, no problem this transition shouldn’t be too bad….WRONG!!!!! She absolutely refused any liquids I offered her for the first day, except for maybe a few sips of water. She screamed and screamed and screamed and I couldn’t fix it for her because everything I offered her she turned down, even resorting to trying nursing again, for which I was repaid with a nice bite. So that night she fell asleep and then woke up at 2am quite unhappy and again refused everything, until finally at 3:30am she ate a whole jar of pears and then fell asleep by 5am. Then was back up at 7am thirsty/hungry and only taking a few sips of water again. I offered her some milk and she finally took a few sips of that……she was eating like a champ so I was picking foods that seemed higher in water content and feeding her whole milk yogurt at each meal. And trying two different sippy cups that our neighbor had let me borrow, nothing seemed to take very well, leaving me with a screaming baby. I finally got to the grocery so I got soy milk, vanilla soy milk, berry soy milk, grape juice(which I think she had a reaction to), apple juice(which she doesn’t seem to like), pear juice(which she also doesn’t seem to like), whole milk and breast milk and a new sippy cup. She seems to like a combo of milks right now. So we mixed up the combo and tried the different cups and she liked her new sippy cup as a toy but couldn’t really work it, but the glass that seemed to work best for our little diva is the martini glass pictured below. She was enjoying her milk martini a bit more each time I offered her the glass. And I was not going to argue. Last night another neighbor lent me a Tupperware sippy cup that I am sure many mothers will recognize as one of the original sippy cups and that seems to be working wonderfully!!!! So for now we finally have success today(Friday) with her drinking some fluids without it being an all out screaming fest. Now her dad will be home this evening and I am sure that we will not have one problem because she always manages to make a liar out of me, especially in front of her dad.
