A "Flooring" project

A "simple" flooring project we started when I was 30 weeks pregnant with these two little ones has turned into a complete kitchen remodel! A little crazy, yes but simpler then tackling the project with 3 little ones. So........

We originally were going to remove the old, dirty floor and paint the kitchen. Not too much considering with twins after 30 weeks you are watched much more carefully for early delivery. Well in order to install the hardwood floor correctly we would have to remove the cabinets, which would probably destroy our blue countertops. So the project then became: floor, paint and countertops. Also our 30+ year old fridge/freezer was on its way out. Actually the freezer was more like a wine fridge and the fridge was beginning to get pretty warm. So we started shopping for a new fridge and countertops. While shopping for a new fridge we realized what an unusual sized fridge we currently had and we should consider cabinet modification in order to get a more "standard" size fridge. Also while shopping we realized our other 30+ year old appliances were going to go sooner rather then later and we didn't want to redo the floors and put our old appliances on top of the new hardwood floors. So then we we added shopping for other kitchen appliances. Next, the original kitchen was so dark and drove us nuts so if were going to tackle a lot of the kitchen then we should add a few lights.....then finally came the issue with the kitchen cabinets. We have pretty all wood cabinets, but the arrangement, size and the fact they never really shut all the way had us thinking that the cabinetry should be replaced. After all, we weren't going to do a project like this again for a VERY, VERY, VERY long time. So thus began the kitchen remodel. We are not done yet but are getting closer. When we have a new kitchen we will post pics too, but just so you can see what we have been up too...in addition to growing two babies and taking care of a two year old.

As with any housing project, but especially in an old house, expect the unexpected.....when working on the back wall where we knew we had some water damage....we found quite a bit more! We already had a draft in the back room but thought it was because the back door was off of its door frame and it was rotting(we have a new back door and back door frame now). Little did we know that the wall was no existent.....the wall needed a little work:) Also needing work were the floor supports in the back room. We added more floor support and then could lay the hardwood. So we had a lot of holes in the kitchen for awhile. It looked quite a bit like an abandoned building.
